STEUBENVILLE –The Franciscan University of Steubenville
Lady Barons softball team played another doubleheader on their home
field Thursday evening, falling to the Medaille College Lady
Mavericks in a 9-0, 21-1 defeat. These losses move the Lady
Barons to an overall standing of 1-9 and 0-4 standing in the
Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
The Lady Barons gave up two runs in the first inning of the
first game, but it was the second inning, seven-run scoring tear by
the Lady Mavs that dropped the Lady Barons down to a 9-0
deficit. However, the Lady Barons held strong defensively for
the final three innings, allowing only two hits for the remainder
of the game. The Lady Barons struggled offensively, though,
registering only two hits – one by Monica Recznik and the
other by pitcher Shelbi Linscomb.
The second game was rockier for the Lady Barons, giving up
thirteen runs in the first inning en route to a 21-1 loss.
Grace Moran scored the sole run of the game for the Lady Barons.
“We just had trouble hitting today,” Lady Barons
head coach Jen Biela noted. “But we stuck together as a
team, and Katie Quitney had a great game behind the plate.”
The Lady Barons travel to La Roche College April 7 to take on
the Lady Redhawks at 3 p.m.
