BRADFORD, PA – The Franciscan University of Steubenville
Lady Barons squared off against the Panthers of University of
Pittsburgh at Bradford Tuesday afternoon in a make-up contest.
Franciscan dropped both games 6-0 and 11-0. The losses set the Lady
Barons to an overall record of 2-18 and 1-11 in the Allegheny
Mountain Collegiate Conference.
Franciscan struggled offensively in the first contest, getting
only two hits off of Panther pitcher Sarah Angeletti. Shortstop
Amanda Ruwart and third baseman Krista Bertke each singled for the
only hits of the game for Franciscan. Shelbi Linscomb pitched a
complete game for the Lady Barons, giving up four earned runs off
of nine hits while striking out six batters.
In the second game, the Lady Barons were again held to two hits
by the combined efforts of starter Dana Illos and Angeletti. Sarah Higinbotham started for Franciscan, pitching two innings and giving
up ten runs – three earned off of eleven hits. The Panthers
took an early 9-0 lead after the first inning and never looked
back. Linscomb came in relief for Higinbotham for the final two
innings, giving up one earned run off of four hits.
The Lady Barons committed three errors on the game. Second
baseman Caroline Bamburek and Ruwart were the offensive highlights,
each with a single.
Franciscan faces the challenge of playing back-to-back as they
hit the road to face conference foe Penn State-Altoona in a
doubleheader on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 4:00 pm.
