ERIE, PA –The Franciscan University of Steubenville Lady
Barons fought hard against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference
foe Penn State Behrend on Saturday, losing the doubleheader 3-2 and
11-2. Franciscan now stands at 2-22 overall on the season and 1-14
in the AMCC.
In the first game, the Lady Barons took an early 2-0 lead in the
second inning when singles by Monica Recznik and Amanda Ruwart
resulted in RBIs. However, the Lady Barons were unable to hold onto
the lead when the Lady Lions scored three runs off of defensive
errors in the fifth – taking the lead and the game.
Shelbi Linscomb played an outstanding game on both sides for
Franciscan. Linscomb pitched a complete game, giving up just four
hits while striking out four batters. Offensively, she went
3-for-3 at bat and scored a run. Ruwart also held a good offensive
game, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
In the second game, Linscomb pitched a gutsy performance, giving
up three runs, two of them earned, in three innings of work. Lara Plumlee came in for relief, giving up seven earned runs off of nine
hits. Offensive stars for the Lady Barons were catcher Katie Quitney who went 2-for-3, and again Linscomb, who drove in both of
Franciscan's runs.
Franciscan will face the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg
Panthers this Tuesday at the North End Field in Steubenville.
The first game of the doubleheader starts at 3:30 pm.
