ERIE, PA – It was a difficult day for the Franciscan
University of Steubenville Barons baseball team Saturday afternoon,
as the team traveled to Penn State Behrend to face the Lions in a
doubleheader, losing 13-1 and 20-1. With the losses, the
Barons fell to a 7-26 standing overall and 3-16 in the Allegheny
Mountain Collegiate Conference.
The Barons struggled to find a hitting rhythm, registering only
four hits in the first game. Anthony Pontarelli had two hits,
Rocco Auteri had a hit and an RBI, and Ryan Marrow had a hit and a
run scored in the loss.
The second game was even harder for the Barons, who were outhit
by Penn State Behrend 19-4. Franciscan gave up three runs in
the first inning, one in the second, and ten in the third inning en
route to the 20-1 loss.
Pontarelli once again led the Barons offensively in the second
game with two hits and the team's sole run. Kevin Marrow and
Matt Liedel each registered a hit in the loss.
The Barons face the Ohio State University Newark Titans on
Wednesday, April 28. The first pitch at Franciscan
University's Vaccaro Field is set for 4 p.m. This is the
team's final game of the season and will honor the graduating
seniors prior to the start of the game.
