HAMBURG, NY – The Franciscan University softball team
finished their most successful season to date on Saturday
afternoon. The Lady Barons lost both games in the doubleheader to
the Hilbert College Hawks, 5-3 and 7-6.
Game one showed Lady Baron pitcher Shelbi Lincomb throwing a
complete game, giving up thirteen hits, five runs, and striking out
three. Seniors Katie Quitney and Bethany Fischer each stepped up to
the plate offensively for the Lady Barons, going 2-3 with one run
each. Quitney also contributed an RBI. First baseman Lauren Kuzma
also went 2-3, while Amanda Ruwart went 1-4 with a run to round out
the offense.
The second game was a tough loss for the Lady Barons. Taking
control of the game early, they were ahead 3-1 in the third inning.
Franciscan added three more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to
secure a 6-1 lead before the Hawks batted in the bottom of the
sixth. But the Lady Barons were unable to close out their win as
Hilbert rallied back to score six runs for a 7-6 victory.
Linscomb showed tenacity pitching her second complete game of
the night. She gave up seventeen hits and seven earned runs with
three strikeouts. Linscomb also contributed to the team
offensively, hitting 2-4 with two runs and two RBI. Fischer showed
her offensive game going 2-3 while scoring two runs, Kuzma also
stayed solid hitting 2-4 with two RBI, while Krista Bertke went 2-3
and drove in two more runs.
The Lady Barons softball team finished the season 3-25 overall
and 2-18 in its second season in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate
Conference.
