Box Score STEUBENVILLE – It was the second home game of the season
for the Franciscan University of Steubenville Lady Barons Tennis
team as they took on Washington and Jefferson College Wednesday
afternoon. The inaugural team fell to the Presidents 7-2, bringing
their overall standings to 1-3, and 1-1 on the season in the
Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
The match began with doubles. Seeded third, Lady Barons Kiah
Christiansen and Lucia Neugebaur, both freshmen, were the only
pair to defeat Washington and Jefferson, 8-6.
Head tennis coach Curtis Allen was pleased with their
performance, noting that "Kiah played excellently tonight".
The singles matches were a tough fight for the Lady Barons,
falling 5-1. Junior Lyndsay Nadeau
defeated Washington and Jefferson's Valerie Mahoney, 6-0, 4-6,
(11-9).
"I felt like we were pretty even," Nadeau said afterwards. "You
just have to remember that the next point wins it."
"Lyndsay played excellently," noted Allen. "She was our bright
spot tonight. She had to fight back."
Sophomore Taylor McColgan,
number one seed on the team, is currently sidelined with ankle
injures.
The Lady Barons will host conference opponent Penn State Behrend
this Saturday at 1 p.m.
