Box Score STEUBENVILLE – Franciscan University of Steubenville's
Lady Barons Tennis team suffered another defeat Friday afternoon at
the hands of nonconference foe Mount Union College, with a final
match score of 9-0. This fifth loss continues their losing streak,
and the Lady Barons drop to an overall standing of 1-6.
Franciscan showed their biggest competitive edge in the doubles
rounds, with Lucia Neugebauer and Amanda Boik taking on
Mount Union Raiders Julie Amabeli and Carolann Sterkenburg. Despite
a defeat of 8-3, the efforts of the number three-seeded team was
noticed by head coach Curtis Allen.
"They played well," said Allen. "Mount Union is a very good
team, but we got a couple of game-wins in, which is always a good
thing."
Number one seed in singles for the Lady Barons, sophomore Taylor
McColgan was able to return to court today after a recent ankle
injury. McColgan fell to Mount Union's Krissy Hallett, 6-0,
6-0.
The Lady Barons head back to courts tomorrow to take on
University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. The conference game is set to
start at 1 p.m. at the Belleview Park courts.
