Lady Baron Tennis Doesn't Give an Easy Win

Box Score

STEUBENVILLE – The score isn't proof of the competition between Franciscan University's Lady Baron Tennis team and the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Saturday afternoon. The Lady Barons lost the match, 9-0. The team now sits 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.

"The score really doesn't show how much we battled at every match," said head coach Curtis Allen. "This was the closest 9-0 loss I've ever seen. We didn't give them any easy points."

Putting pressure on the Lady Panthers during the doubles rounds, Lady Baron duo Taylor McColgan and Marija Beck dropped 8-4 in their match against Sarah Fowkes and Steph Krall.

McColgan, back from an injury that sidelined her for a few weeks, continued to push Pitt-Bradford to earn their match wins. At the number one spot in singles, Lady Panther Angela Shick fought hard to defeat McColgan, with a final tally of 7-6(4), 6-4.

"It lifts the team's spirit having Taylor [McColgan] back in the game," noted Allen. "They know they have their number one player and captain back, and it's good for them on and off the court."

Also notably playing well, despite losing, was Lady Baron Marija Beck with a singles score of 5-7, 6-2, (10-4); and Lucia Neugebauer with a tight loss of 6-4, 6-3.

The Lady Barons travel to Penn State Altoona this Wednesday, September 29, to take on the Lady Lions beginning at 4 p.m.
