Barons Caught in Geneva's Tornado

Box Score

STEUBENVILLE – The Franciscan University of Steubenville men's soccer team faced Geneva College Saturday afternoon and it was more than the windy field that caught the Barons off guard. The Geneva College Golden Tornadoes lived up to their name, leaving the Barons in the dust with a final score of 4-0. The Barons are now 0-2 on the season.

The first half started with the competition seemingly balance until Geneva scored its first goal at the 20 minute mark. Baron midfielder Steve Duran attempted to retaliate with three shots on goal, but couldn't get one passed Geneva goalkeeper Evan Biedenbach.

The second half opened with Geneva scoring a third goal seven minutes into the half. Five minutes later, Baron defenseman Andrew Straub fouled Geneva's Kenton Buckhart in the box, giving Buckhart the penalty shot and a goal to make the score 4-0.

"I saw some good things," head coach Johann Marin said. "This team improved from the last game and that is all I can ask for as a coach. However, we are looking to play at a certain level in preparation for conference play. We are learning from these games and fine-tuning ourselves. I want to assure everyone who has an invested interest in Franciscan soccer – we will be looking to play better."

The Barons will face Walsh College on the road Tuesday, September 7, at 7:00 p.m.
