Lady Baron Soccer Strikes

STEUBENVILLE – The Lady Baron Soccer team of Franciscan University of Steubenville hosted Muskingum University Monday night, winning 2-0. The Lady Barons came back from a two-game losing slump to show their much-anticipated strength against Muskingum, advancing to 1-2 overall on the season. 

The Lady Barons kept a steady pace all game, scoring a goal each half.  Senior veteran Marian Weber was the first to score for the Lady Barons at 34:38 in the first half. The Lady Barons earned a solid win when freshman Amanda Looman scored with less than two minutes left in the game. 

The Barons defense played a strong role in the game. Muskingum was held to seven shots on goal. Stacey Lancour led the Lady Barons with four shots on goal – Franciscan racked up 25 shots on the day. 

"The things we have been working on are coming together, "said Coach Johann Marin. "Our team played as a good unit. It was a unified effort, and I'm happy to be one step closer to our goal, which is to be ready for the conference games. Clare Grchan and Megan Scanlon had an amazing day. Our goalkeeper Sarah Thoms was outstanding, making a number of key plays throughout the game." 

The Lady Barons play tomorrow at Walsh University.  Game time is set for 5 p.m.
