Lady Baron Tennis Struggles to Find Footing

STEUBENVILLE – The Geneva College Golden Tornadoes strike again as their women's tennis team took on the Franciscan University of Steubenville Lady Barons on Wednesday for the season opener. Franciscan struggled to find its footing as a brand new team playing its first game ever in FUS history, falling to Geneva, 9-0.

The Lady Barons were not allowed a slow introduction into the season, as Geneva set a quick pace in the singles matches. In the number one match-up, Golden Tornadoes Chelsea Cover beat Lady Baron Taylor McColgan 6-2, 6-0.

"The match was a good start for our program. We only had one week of practice before this match, so I think it was a good starting point," said head coach Curtis Allen. "Tonight was definitely a learning experience for our team. We are focused on improving throughout the course of this first season."

Allen noted that he was pleased with his team's effort. "Taylor McColgan and Marija Beck competed well for our number one match-up," he said. "Although they lost 8-3, they had a number of great points, never giving up the entire game."

The Lady Barons look to improve in their first conference game as they travel to Medaille College this Saturday. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
