Box Score STEUBENVILLE—The Franciscan University Barons basketball team held the number one team in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference to just 56 points Saturday afternoon, but could only muster up 37 points on its own. This 56-37 loss to Penn State Behrend is the fourth straight loss for the Barons.
Thomas Kleinschnitz was the only Baron to score in the double-digits, leading the team with 15 points. Justin Kovac had a game-high of 16 points as he shot 4-8 from the three-point line for the Lions.
"I'm proud of the boys tonight, especially of their effort on the defensive end," said Franciscan's head coach Sean Donovan. "Nate Stanton, Connor Flanagan, and Frank Murray stood out defensively."
The Barons went into the game attempting to slowdown the opponent's offense, according to Donovan, and the low final score displayed how the Barons stuck to this plan effectively. "We just couldn't get a real good offensive flow for ourselves," Donovan said.
The Barons cut the deficit to within six points twice, once in the first half and once in the second, but weren't able to get over that hump either time.
"Overall it was a good defensive effort from the starters. Tomorrow is another day and we've got to get ready for La Roche on Monday," noted Donovan.
The loss brings the Barons record to 2-11 on the year and 2-6 in the conference. The team hosts La Roche College this Monday night; tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
