Lady Barons Toppled by Conference Leaders

Box Score

BUFFALO, N.Y.—The Franciscan Lady Barons traveled to Medaille College Saturday afternoon to take on the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference leaders, the Lady Mavericks. As the Lady Barons faced a 14-point deficit at halftime, the Lady Mavs opened up the second half on a 26-7 run that put the game out of reach for Franciscan to seal a 78-46 win.

"I wasn't unhappy with the first half, and we got into foul trouble," said head coach Luke Heusel. "We got off on the wrong foot in the second half and we weren't able to recover."

The Lady Mavericks had nine different players score in the game including four in double-digits. "They're a good, solid team that plays good defense and everyone can score," Heusel added. "With such a balanced team there's not much slack; they were too balanced to let us come back."

Christine Conrad led the way for the Lady Barons with 15 points. Molly Coogan, Marian Weber, and Hannah Flanagan each had eight, and Caitlin Donovan chipped in with seven points.

Medaille is leading the AMCC with a now 17-2 overall record. According to Coach Heusel, "You've got to really be on top of all aspects of your game—be nearly perfect—to be in it with a team like that."

The Lady Barons now stand at 2-15 on the season and 1-11 in the AMCC. They travel to the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
