Barons Hit a Shooting Lull

BUFFALO, N.Y.—The Barons couldn't find their offensive spark Sunday afternoon as the team fell 70-55 to the D'Youville College Spartans. Franciscan brought home two losses from the weekend in New York, and now sits 2-9 overall and 2-4 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.

"We really struggled again today to find the rhythm we needed on the offensive end," said head coach Sean Donovan. "We can keep teams down defensively, but can't generate our offense."

It was a surprisingly low score for the Barons, but with four players still shooting in the double-digits. Senior co-captain Thomas Kleinschnitz held the game high with 18 points, adding three assists on the day as well. Nate Stanton added 14 points, Connor Flanagan had 13, and Sean Wayne contributed 10.

"Frank Murray had a great defensive game for us today," noted Donovan. "But the big difference was the shooting. We hit some shooting lulls and our final score was not typical of our offense. Our tight defense has to be matched with a good attack to get the win."

Franciscan faces D'Youville on its home court at the end of the season in February, and in the meantime Coach Donovan plans to focus on building the consistency and team chemistry needed to get some more wins. "Next time should be a vastly different game," he said.

The Barons will get ready to face the Penn State Altoona Lions on their home court this Wednesday, January 12. The game is set to start at 8 p.m.
