Box Score STEUBENVILLE, Ohio —Franciscan University's soccer teams hosted Penn State Altoona for doubleheader conference play Tuesday afternoon. Sitting at number four in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference in men's and women's play, the Altoona Lions defeated the Barons 2-0 and the Lady Barons 3-2.
The first half showed all the offensive action for the men's game as Altoona's Storm Garrett and Mike Robinson scored their team's two goals for the competition. The Barons tallied nine shots on goal compared to Altoona's 4, but came up dry to add another shutout to their season.
"The men lost their momentum early in the game," said assistant coach Billy Herrmann. "so we hope to see more creativity in the team's passing and runs at Saturday's game."
The Barons now sit 2-10 overall and 1-4 within the AMCC.
Following the men's game, the Lady Barons showed more offensive power versus Penn State Altoona, but not enough to match Altoona's Erin Chafardon. Chafardon earned two of the three Altoona goals on the day to give the Lions the 3-2 win.
"The Lady Barons finished the first half of the game tied 2-2 with the Lions, showing the equal play between the teams," said Herrmann. "But there wasn't enough outside-the-box play which cost us the game."
Amanda Looman and Ashley Ruttencutter both scored unassisted for the Lady Baron goals earned in the first half of the game.
Franciscan University hosts the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Saturday, Oct. 15, for another conference game. The Barons play at 1 p.m., with the Lady Barons following at 3 p.m.
