Box Score Cresson, Pa.—Franciscan University's soccer teams traveled to take on the Mount Aloysius Mounties for doubleheader conference play Wednesday afternoon. Although they were missing a few players, the Lady Barons were able to defeat the Mounties 3-0, while the Mounties defeated the Barons 3-2.
"The ladies worked very hard in today's game, not quitting, and hitting the field mentally prepared," said assistant coach Billy Herrmann. "The Lady Barons have a chance to make it to the playoffs, so the team needs to come out just as prepared this next Saturday to take home a win."
The Lady Barons and the Mounties were evenly matched for most of the first half of the game; however, the Lady Baron's Amanda Looman scored the first goal of the game, assisted by Julia Cocozza, in the last minute of the half. The Lady Barons continued to play a tough game, despite only having 12 girls at the game, allowing for only one substitute.
The second half of the game began with Ashley Ruttencutter scoring the Lady Baron's second goal of the game. Jackie Lon scored the final goal for the Lady Barons. It was the junior's first goal of the season.
The Lady Barons now sit 7-7 overall and 3-4 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play.
The Barons came out today prepared to do the best they could, with only 11 players on the field, and no substitutes.
"It was our hope to have the players willingly step up today to play positions they might not normally play, due to the absence of so many players," said Herrmann, "and the men did just that. The team moved the ball really well and created many good scoring opportunities."
Peter Herrmann scored two shots on the day for the Barons, with the first goal scored 35 minutes into the game, assisted by Blake Bonilla. Peter Herrmann scored his second goal five minutes before the end of the game, bringing the Barons close to a tie.
Though the Barons are out of the playoffs, Billy Herrmann hopes to see the Barons play well in the team's next two conference games. The Barons now sit 2-12 overall and 1-6 in AMCC play.
