Box Score STEUBENVILLE, Ohio—Franciscan University's Finnegan Fieldhouse was full of fans present for the honoring of Lady Baron seniors Nicole Henson and Alyssa Wappes Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately for the home team, Penn State Behrend played spoiler as they took down Franciscan, 3-0.
"It was kind of an interesting game in which we had to move some people around," head coach Kelly Herrmann said. "We moved Meg [Kay] over to the right side because of her ankle [injury suffered last week in practice], and we had Maria Prezzia playing some outside instead of Teresa Hess. It was just a match of adjustments."
According to Coach Herrmann, the Lady Barons started strong in every game, but a balanced offensive attack full of tips and rolls from Behrend was ultimately the key to earning the victory.
Franciscan lost all three games on the day: 25-22, 25-19, 25-21.
"I felt like we started tipping too much," Herrmann added, "and I challenged the girls to hit hard because Behrend plays a tighter perimeter defense; they really cover the tips and cover the middle of the court very well."
Anna Cain led the Lady Baron offense with 17 kills, while Amy O'Keefe contributed with 30 assists, and Nicole Henson turned in 20 digs on her Senior Day.
"At the end of each of the three games we made some mistakes where the girls were not in the right position and you can't make those types of mistakes against a good team," said Herrmann. "It's always disappointing to lost the match on the day honoring the seniors, but now we are going to focus on our last two matches and try to get ready for the conference tournament."
The Lady Barons are now 11-12 overall and 3-4 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. They travel to the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg on Oct. 26 for the conference match-up scheduled to being at 7 p.m.
