BEAVER FALLS, Pa.—With just two matches remaining until the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship, the Lady Baron tennis team is unrelenting; it traveled to Geneva College on Tuesday afternoon and secured a 5-4 win. Franciscan University holds an overall record of 10-2 on the season, a big improvement on last season's overall record of 4-9. Head coach Jenna Lynch made adjustments to the lineup, giving her players a chance at tougher competition.

"Our original No. 1 and No. 2 singles players—Jen Winkle and Alanna Murray—were pulled out to bump up other girls, to see how they competed at a higher level," Lynch said. "The win proved that they can handle the competition."

Despite loses from the No. 1, 2, and 3 singles seeds, undefeated Hannah Pettit took the No. 4 win, 8-4. Kaylene Godnick played No. 5 singles; down 1-4, she made a comeback to win the match 8-5. The No. 6 singles seed became Jessica Bestgen, who only had a few days to practice due to an injury but was able to win, 8-2.

Though they didn't play in the singles round, Jen Winkle and Alanna Murray teamed up to sweep their opponent 8-0 in the No. 1 doubles spot. As No.2 double team, Leann Roggensack and Mary O'Brien won in extended play, 9-8, 7-5.

The Lady Barons finished AMCC play on Sunday, ending the regular season 7-1. Compared to last year's conference record of 4-4, the team's second season has shown tremendous improvement. They host La Roche College—though La Roche is an AMCC team, it isn't a conference match—on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1:00 p.m.
