Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa.—Franciscan University's soccer teams traveled to La Roche on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Red Hawks in a doubleheader. The Lady Barons won 3-0 while the Barons fell to the Red Hawks with a loss of 2-1. The Lady Barons now stand 2-1 in conference play, and 6-4 overall; the Barons now stand 1-2 in conference play, and 2-8 overall.
"The Lady Barons played really well today; the women had a good handle on the ball from the beginning of the game," said assistant coach Billy Herrmann. "The team's formation was changed a little bit by putting some of our stronger players in better positions, and it is working really well for the team."
Julia Cocozza scored two goals on the day for the Lady Barons. Anna Laudiero played a strong game defensively and in the midfield, scoring one goal on the day. Ann Duran played a very strong game also; Duran connected passes well and did not hold on to or touch the ball too much.
"The Barons came out evenly matched against the Red Hawks this afternoon," said Herrmann, "and even though the team lost, they are coming together well as a team and have come a long way. The team is doing well in its conference play."
The Barons took 11 shots on goal during the game, compared to the Red Hawks 18 shots on goal. The Barons played defensively strong the first half of the game. Peter Herrmann assisted Tommy Allen in his one goal on the day, off of a header. Joey Walsh and Bill Millburn played strong defensively in this afternoon's game.
Franciscan soccer travels to Family First Sports Park on Saturday, Oct. 8, to take on another Conference team, Penn State Behrend. The Barons will challenge the Lions at 1 p.m., with the Lady Barons following at 3 p.m.
