Men's and Women's Soccer Lose to Lions

ERIE, Pa.—Franciscan University's soccer teams traveled to the Family First Sports Park on Saturday afternoon to challenge the Penn State Behrend Lions. The Barons lost in the first game of the afternoon to the Lions 6-3, while the Lady Barons subsequently lost 1-0.

The Barons had a rough start to the game, allowing the Lions to score four goals within the first eighteen minutes of the game. Twenty-three minutes into the game, Jesse Saltarelli scored the first goal for the Barons, assisted by Blake Bonilla. Saltarelli scored his goal off of a cross from the right, with a blast over the goalie's head.  Bonilla scored the Baron's second goal, with a shot from the left, beating the goalie and scoring unassisted. Tommy Allen scored the third goal for the Barons, in the second half of the game, assisted by Bonilla, with a shot into the lower right corner of the net.

The Barons had a total of ten shots on goal in today's game, while the Lions had twenty-two shots on goal, displaying the Barons struggle with offensive opportunities. The Barons now stand 2-9 overall, and 1-3 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play. 

The Lady Barons played an evenly matched game against the Lions this afternoon, with neither team scoring any goals in the first half. Early in the second half of the game, the Lions scored a goal, beating the Lady Barons goal keeper, Lauren Koath, with a one-on-one play. The Lady Barons took six shots on goal, while the Lions took nine shots on goal, displaying an evenly matched game. The Lady Barons now stand 6-5 overall, and 2-2 in conference play.

Franciscan University hosts Penn State Altoona on Tuesday, Oct. 11, for their next conference game. The Barons game will begin at 2 p.m., with the Lady Barons following at 4 p.m.
