Box Score STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — The Franciscan University of Steubenville men's basketball team continued their early season skid tonight against the fast-paced Mt. Aloysius Mounties, falling by a score of 120-54.
"One of our biggest issues has been being able to handle pressure," said head coach John Lamanna, "and we're working on trying to figure out how to better handle ourselves in pressure situations. That's why we got down so early, because we go pressured."
The Barons dropped into an early deficit and were never able to recover.
Senior Andrew Kay led the Barons in scoring for the second straight game as he poured in a team-high of 16 points. Daniel Kroening added 13, and freshmen Peter Amrein and Caleb Knorr each scored eight.
"This game provided us with an opportunity to see clearly what our weaknesses are so we can now move forward and work on improving those areas," Lamanna added. "It's critical to use this game as a learning experience and then move on. It's a matter of how we bounce back and how we respond to this adversity that we've encountered."
One encouraging characteristic of the young Baron team is their fight, according to Lamanna. "There are brighter days for this program and despite the score tonight, we didn't give up – we fought. The score is not a good depiction of how our guys fought tonight."
The Barons fall to 0-7 on the season and 0-2 in the Allegheny Collegiate Mountain Conference. They make the trip to Medaille College on Sunday, Dec. 11, for a battle with the Mavericks scheduled to begin at noon.
