Lady Barons Continue To Look Ahead

Box Score

PITTSBURGH, Pa.—When Franciscan University hosted La Roche College in January, it was a one-sided affair of Redhawk domination throughout all 40 minutes of play. When the Lady Barons visited La Roche on Wednesday, it was a different story. The Lady Barons trailed by just four at halftime, and it wasn't until the second half that the Redhawks took control for a 62-54 victory.

"We shot the ball better [than we did the first time we played them]," head coach Luke Heusel said. "Defensively we did a good job; we played with them the entire game."

The freshman combination of Hannah Flanagan and Molly Coogan led the Lady Barons offensively as the two scored 20 and 16, respectively, and shot a combined 7-17 from the three.

Franciscan was down by as much as twelve halfway through the first half, but used a 14-6 run over the last ten minutes to bring the deficit to 28-24. But in the second half, the Redhawks took advantage of the Lady Baron turnovers to put the game away.

"Too many turnovers was the problem," Heusel added. "If we reduce some turnovers, that eight-point game is much different"

Heusel commented about the improvements he's seen from his young team as of late, especially at the end of games, saying "They're tougher and shooting the ball with better confidence, and we're finishing harder." "We're still young—which is good—but I think that also makes it harder sometimes. We're looking for better still."

The Lady Barons are now 3-19 overall and 2-15 in conference play, and will host D'Youville College on Saturday, February 19, for Senior Night at 4 p.m.
