BUFFALO, N.Y.—The offensive woes continued for the Franciscan University Lady Barons softball team during its doubleheader against the Medaille College Lady Mavericks on Sunday. In game one, Franciscan fell by a score of 9-0 in five innings, and in game two fell 11-3 in six innings.
In the first game of the doubleheader, Franciscan was victim to a sharp pitching performance by Medaille's Kristen Rohe. Rohe pitched a complete game: a two-hit shutout while recording four strikeouts and walking just two. Lara Plumlee—the losing pitcher in game one—and Daniella Pillar notched the only two hits for the Lady Barons.
In game two, however, things were not as easy for the Lady Mavs. Leading off the game at the plate for Franciscan was Brianna Antrim, who singled and advanced to third on two consecutive groundouts. She later scored on a wild pitch to give the Barons a 1-0 lead.
Antrim got the job done on the mound in the bottom of the first as she kept the Lady Baron lead in tact. In the top of the second inning, Catherine Durand walked and eventually scored on an error to give the Lady Barons a two-run lead.
Medaille would tie the score in the bottom of the third, but Franciscan went back up 3-2 after the top of the fourth. Unfortunately for the Lady Barons, their offense was done for the day while Medaille's was just getting started. The Lady Mavs used four runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and four more in the sixth to put the visitors away, 11-3.
Antrim got the loss on the mound in game two, but went 2-3 at the plate. Also tallying hits for the Lady Barons were Pillar, Durand, Bridget Cooke, Lauren Kuzma, and Megan Milstead.
Franciscan is one of three teams still winless in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference at 0-10 (1-19 overall) and they will be back on the field for a doubleheader with AMCC-leading La Roche College on Wednesday beginning at 3 p.m.
