Baron Tennis Team Goes 9-1 On The Season

Box Score

STEUBENVILLE—It was a spectacular 9-0 victory for Franciscan University's men's tennis team Wednesday afternoon as the Barons finished off the regular season with a 9-1 overall record and 5-1 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. The resounding victory over Mount Aloysius Mounties completed the Barons triumphant 8-game winning streak on the regular season.

"This has been an awesome season," said head coach Curtis Allen. "To finish with a 9-1 overall record is remarkable. We knew we had the talent this year to be successful, but I don't think anybody thought we would dominate the way that we did. As amazing as the regular season was, our focus is now on the conference championship this coming weekend."

Baron doubles teams were on fire today with 8-0 victories for both first team Paul Jarzynka and Brian Robau and second team Leonel Lacayo and Luke Merry. Third team Patrick Wilmot and Jack Bruce completed the doubles winning streak with an 8-2 victory.

The Barons swept in singles, starting with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 shutout for both no.1 seed and no.2 seed, Leonel Lacayo and Paul Jarzynka, respectively.  Brian Robau clinched a 6-0, 6-1 win over Chris Cielo; Luke Merry continued the winning streak with a 6-1, 6-1 victory; Patrick Wilmot dominated with a 6-0, 6-0 win; and Jack Bruce finished his conference season strong with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

"It was a great end to the regular season of my collegiate career," beamed Patrick Wilmot.

The Barons head to the AMCC championship this weekend April 16-17, in Wexford, Pa.
