Mother Nature Cooperates, Softball Drops DH

STEUBENVILLE—After a week of rain and snow delays, Franciscan University of Steubenville was finally able to step onto the field again as the Lady Baron softball team faced off against conference foe D'Youville College on Sunday. The Lady Barons bowed to the Spartans 11-1 and 10-0 in the doubleheader.

The games were originally scheduled for Saturday, but were pushed to Sunday due to the unpredictable weather the Ohio Valley has faced all week.

In the first game, Franciscan faced a powerhouse pitching performance from D'Youville's Hannah Norton, managing just five hits and one run for the game. Emily Whiteside had good game offensively going 2-3 while pitcher Lara Plumlee drove in the lone Lady Baron run. Plumlee pitched a complete game, giving up 10 earned runs on 17 hits.

In the second game, Amanda Ruwart was the star going 2-2 from the plate. Ruwart and Plumlee split pitching duties, with Plumlee pitching the first four innings, surrendering six earned runs and 11 hits, while Ruwart gave up one earned run in her one inning of work. Brianna Antrim, Rebecca Peters, Erin Gulick and Kelly Cole each tallied hits for the Lady Barons as well.

The Lady Barons now sit 1-11 overall and 0-4 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. The team hosts its next game this Tuesday, April 5, against Penn State Altoona. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. on the new softball field located on the campus of Franciscan University of Steubenville.
