Box Score BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Franciscan University's soccer teams traveled to Geneva College Saturday evening, challenging the Golden Tornadoes and splitting the double header, bringing home a win of 4-1 for the Lady Barons and a loss of 5-0 for the Barons.
"The women came out strong today," said assistant coach Billy Herrmann. "Midfield played especially well today, connecting passes and getting the ball up the field."
The first Lady Baron goal of the night was tallied by freshman Jordan Byrley, put into the game as a substitute. Byrley totaled two shots on goal with two goal results on the day. Julie Cocozza contributed the other two Lady Baron goals and assisted Byrley on one, while Ashley Ruttencutter assisted on the other Byrley goal.
The Lady Barons are now 4-1 overall. The team will travel to Bethany College on Wednesday, Sept. 21, for its next game planned to begin at 7:30 p.m.
The Barons faced a challenging powerhouse in the Golden Tornadoes, but "the Barons played fast and hard, and the team had a great attitude and didn't quit, which was good progression," said assistant coach Billy Herrmann.
The Barons faced a shift in their line up on the day. Bill Milburn, normally playing midfield, was put back on defense while Brian Bobak, who normally plays forward, was moved to the center field to play with Joe Krilich. The changes didn't help the Barons as the Golden Tornadoes took 14 shots on the day compared to the Barons 7 shots on the day, shutting Franciscan out 5-0.
"The Golden Tornadoes really forced the Barons to a higher level of play in tonight's game. The offense did a really great job of creating scoring opportunities, which is really encouraging due to the higher playing level of the Tornadoes," said Herrmann.
The Barons now sit 0-4 overall. The team hosts Bethany College this Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 4 p.m.
