Barons Rally in Second Half for 3-2 Win Over Bethany

Box Score

STEUBENVILLE – Franciscan University's Baron soccer team hosted the Bethany College Bison Tuesday evening, winning their first game of the season, 3-2. The Barons now hold a 1-4 season standing overall.

"Tommy Allen scored the Barons first goal within the first 10 minutes of the game this evening," said assistant coach Billy Herrmann. "Getting this goal early in the game was great for the team's moral. It encouraged them to continue to move the ball quickly from player to player."

Assisted by Bill Millburn, Allen's only shot on goal earned the Barons their first goal on the day. But Bethany responded close to the half with two goals by Arkangelo James and Cameron Ward. It wasn't until the 15 minutes into the second half that the Barons again rallied their offense for a comeback over the two Bison goals.

"The men need to continue to consistently play at a higher, quicker paced level," noted Herrmann.

The first half showed a quicker, dominating offense by the Bisons, but a header by Blake Bonilla brought the Baron focus back for the second half. Bonilla went on to assist the third goal by Joey Walsh close to the 75 minute mark.

The team enters Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play this Saturday, Sept. 24, as the Barons travel to Medaille College for their next game, slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
