Box Score BETHANY, W.Va. – Franciscan University's Lady Baron soccer team traveled to Bethany College Wednesday evening for a nonconference challenge, bringing home its second loss of the season, 2-5. The Lady Barons now hold a 4-2 record overall.
"This evening was the first time the Lady Barons played a game on a turf field and it provided a challenge for the team," said assistant coach Billy Herrmann. "It was a good learning experience for the team, but it was hard for them to adjust to the fast-paced balls."
The Lady Barons couldn't keep up with the Lady Bison offensive rally during the first half. Cassie Spalding scored the first goal within the first five minutes for Bethany College. Amanda Looman assisted Katie Roemer a Lady Baron reply eight minutes into the game. The Lady Bison proceeded to score two more goals to tally a 3-1 advantage. Julia Cocozza followed a minute later with the final goal on the day for Franciscan. Spalding went on to score a second for Bethany before the close of the half.
"The girls need to work on communication and organization with each other on the field for their next game," stated Herrmann.
Bethany went on to earn one more goal in the second half from a free kick by Colleen McNurlen.
The Lady Barons travel to Medaille College for their next game, slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 24, to begin Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play.
