Box Score

STEUBENVILLE – Franciscan University men's soccer team fell to the Washington and Jefferson College Presidents 3-2 in a Wednesday evening home game.

"The Barons played an awesome game tonight," said assistant coach Billy Herrmann. "The men came out very strong, with a great attitude. The team connected its passes and had several offensive opportunities."

The Barons took 19 shots on goal showing the men's hustle in getting the ball up the field. The Presidents scored on the Barons within the first three minutes of the game.

Tommy Allen scored two goals on the day for the Barons. Allen's first goal was assisted by Joey Walsh off of a through ball during the first half, and Allen's second goal was unassisted and scored off of a corner kick during the second half. The Barons saved three out of six shots on goal, while the Presidents saved six out of eight shots on goal.

Blake Bonilla played an excellent game as well. Bonilla, a forward, won every ball and every 50-50 opportunity; he also supported his teammates very well and had a lot of opportunities.

"His increase in opportunities is a great improvement for Bonilla," said Herrmann.

The Barons now sit 1-8 overall. The Barons host Hilbert College on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 1 p.m. for their next conference game.
