Franciscan XC Faces Top Teams at All-Ohio Championship

CEDARVILLE, Ohio — Franciscan University of Steubenville's top cross country team runners competed Friday afternoon at the All-Ohio Championship, running against Division I, II, and III teams. The men's team finished 25th out of 45 teams, while the women placed 29th out of a total of 47 teams.

"This was a good meet," said head coach Daniel Kuebler. "We're getting stronger as a team, and our top runners are getting even better. They each competed extremely well, and their progress this season is clearly visible."

The top seven runners from the men and women's team were well-rested, not competing in the previous meet, the St. Vincent Invitational.

The top male runner for the Barons was Bill Jones. Jones finished fifth overall in the 8K out of 310 total runners, with a time of 25:15.75. Jones was the first Division III runner, out of a total of 147, to finish.

Next for the Barons was Jack Kaiser, running 27:29.87 to finish 145th overall and 46th out of the Division III runners. Kevin LeRoy finished with a time of 27:34.03, placing 150th overall, and 48th in Division III. Joey Schlueter ran a 28:22.61 and finished 205th overall. Newcomer Morgan Gilcrest placed 222nd overall with a time of 28:46.39.

The Lady Barons had to compete against a total of 317 other female runners in the 5,000 meter race, 150 of which were also Division III. The first Lady Baron to finish was Nicole Krajewski with a time of 18:51.85. Krajewski placed 38th overall and was the 5th Division III female to finish. Theresa Evans came in 164th overall with a time of 20:24.29, and finished 66th for Division III runners.

Sara Mueller came in 189th overall with a time of 20:24.29, and sophomore Molly Chambers finished in 20:50.38, placing 194th. Claire Bach also finished strong with a 22:07.50 time and coming in 254th overall.

The cross country team has another meet tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 1, in Greensburg, Pa. Those runners on the team who did not compete at today's All-Ohio Championship will run tomorrow morning at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg Invitational.
