Box Score BETHANY, W.V.—Franciscan University of Steubenville's Lady Baron tennis team headed to Bethany College Tuesday afternoon where they were defeated with a final score of 3-6. Despite the loss, Coach Jenna Lynch saw promise in her players.
"Jen Winkle and Leann Roggensack both had a number of aces on their serving," Coach Lynch said. "Leann also had a great net game and Kristina Godnick was mentally tough and made great placement shots."
The No. 2 doubles team, comprised of Roggensack and Mary O'Brien, celebrated a victory by coming out on top against Bethany's Tinuke Adentunji and Brittani Seeman, 8-6. Roggensack also defeated Maddy Coffey 10-6 seeded at the No. 3 singles spot. After today's match, Hannah Petit remains undefeated as No. 6 in singles play.
Franciscan brought home losses at both the No. 1 doubles singles spots as lady Barons Jen Winkle and Alanna Murray were defeated by the Bison's Maria Vallone and Maddy Coffey by a score of 3-8, and again when Winkle went head-to-head with Vallone and lost 3-10.
The team went into the day's match fresh off of a split weekend; they lost to Penn State Behrend on Saturday and defeated the ladies from University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Sunday. The team's overall record is 1-2, with a conference record of 1-1.
The Lady Barons travel to La Roche College for their next conference match on Saturday, September 10. Match time is set to begin at 1 p.m.
