Loss for Lady Barons; Huck Shows Continued Improvement

Box Score

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — Franciscan University's Lady Barons faced a disappointing loss Wednesday night against the Penn State Altoona Lady Lions. With a final score of 69-50, this is the sixth loss in a row for the Lady Barons, leaving them with a season record of 1-12.

"The team had a good opportunity to do better tonight," said head coach Luke Heusel. "We came out a little flatter than I expected, but still showed some improvement."

The Lady Barons were first on the board with a layup made by Lacey Huck just 30 seconds into the game. Unfortunately, for the remainder of the first half, Franciscan struggled with the shooting, making only 19 to Altoona's 30.

"The shots were the right ones, but they just weren't going in," Heusel said.

The Lady Barons worked steadily to close the gap during the second half, shooting more and better-placed shots. But the Lady Barons couldn't quite catch back up.

Huck stood out as the player pushing the team's momentum on the night, leading in scoring for the Lady Barons.  With 24 points, Huck also led as top rebounder for Franciscan with 20. Amy O'Keefe scored 11 points and followed Huck in rebounds with six.

"Lacey had an impressive game tonight," noted Heusel. "She was definitely the number one standout for the team tonight, and she's been showing improvement game-by-game."

Franciscan University plays again on Saturday, January 14. The Lady Barons travel to Penn State Behrend for a 4 p.m. tip-off.
