Lady Barons Fall to Top Conference Team

Box Score

ERIE, Pa.— Franciscan University's Lady Barons faced Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference No. 2 team Penn State Behrend Saturday evening, dropping the game 83-44. The sixth straight win for the Lady Lions was a loss that leaves Franciscan 1-13 on the season.

"Penn State Behrend is a very talented team," noted head coach Luke Heusel. "We knew that coming in tonight."

"Behrend killed us tonight in the rebounding statistic," said Coach Heusel. "We had a hard time boxing out and finding rebounds. Being in the right spot for rebounds is important and it's something we can do better in."

Franciscans rebounds were almost doubled by Behrend, 26 to 49. Freshman Allyson Cooney was the top rebounder for Franciscan with four.

"We didn't lose this game because we didn't play hard," noted Heusel. "The girls don't stop playing even when they're behind, and I'm proud of them for that.

"Hannah Flanagan did a nice job again tonight handling point, and Cooney on defense continues to take charge."

Flanagan—once again taking over the point guard position in absence of the injured Christine Conrad— was the top scorer for the Lady Barons with 16 points overall. Lacey Huck added nine points in the losing effort.

Franciscan University travels to La Roche College on Monday, January 16 for an 8 p.m. game versus the Redhawks.
