OBERLIN, Ohio- The Franciscan men's and women's cross country
teams traveled to Oberlin to compete in the Intra-Regional Rumble;
their last meet before Conference Championships. Baron runner Bill
Jones won the race, with a personal best time, while women's team
finished fifteenth out of thirty and the men finished twenty-second
out of thirty-two.
Although their times and placement as a team was very important,
the Barons took this weekend to check out their competition, and
get a better understanding of where they stand for the AMCC
Championships on October 27.
"Our hardest competition today was Penn State-Behrend, whom the
men beat but the women lost to" head coach Daniel Kuebler said.
"We're looking forward to seeing them again at Championships, along
with other competitive schools."
Jones ran a race best time of 23:31, beating his personal record
by about 45 seconds, and setting the new FUS record for the 8k.
With great weather and a fast, flat course, the Barons
experienced their best races of the year. Kuebler said that almost
every Franciscan team member broke their personal record.
The top three runners for the women were junior Nichole
Krajewski, and seniors Theresa Evans and Sarah Mueller.
The Barons will spend the next two weeks preparing for AMCC
Championships. Resting and not over-doing the workouts will be key
for their success.
"Conference Championships will be a totally different type of
race," Kuebler said. "The competition will be tough, but we know
what we have to do in the upcoming weeks."
The Barons will compete at Mt. Aloysius on October, 27 for the
Championships, and again on November 10 for the NCAA DIII Great
Lakes Regional Meet.
