Box Score ALTOONA, Pa. — The Franciscan University Lady Baron soccer team lost to Penn State Altoona, 3-2, despite having multiple shot opportunities and controlling possession of the ball most of the game.
The first goal of the game came from local sophomore Ashley Ruttencutter off of an assist. Ruttencutter, who just came back from an injury, also scored the other goal of the game in the second half.
"We continued to dominate the game and control the possession of the game," FUS head coach Johann Marin said. "They created opportunities, however, we are still failing to convert theses opportunities that we're creating."
Between the two scores by Ruttencutter, the Altoona Lions scored two of their own goals and the Lady Barons continued to take shots. The Lady Barons took 17 total shots in the game.
The Lions scored the final and deciding goal of the game in 85th minute.
Marin said sophomores Julia Cocozza, Bethany Potvin, and Katie Roemer with freshman Lauren Noce all had good games and continued to create opportunities but despite their efforts could not get the ball into the back of the net.
This was Potvin's first game back after being out most of the season with an injury.
"Bethany was one of those players that had so many opportunities and she really did an amazing job out there today," Marin said. "We are really glad to have her back."
Although the team has been plagued by injuries and have had a constantly changing lineup, Marin said that this has not affected the teams play because each player knows what her role is.
The lack of offensive conversion forced the FUS defense to perform at a higher level and the Lions were able to capitalize on that. Lady Baron goalkeeper Lauren Koath had 5 total saves on the game.
"I'm proud of my girls, they really did well today and all in all it was a good performance from us," Marin said. "We are very disappointed in the results but we've improved so much his year and will continue to grow and look forward to finishing on a good note."
The Lady Barons are now 3-11-3 on the overall season and 1-5-2 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. They continue their search for goals when they take on the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Saturday Oct. 20 at 1 p.m
