Franciscan Tennis Honors Seniors, Wins Ninth Straight

Box Score

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – Less than two weeks before conference championships, the Franciscan University Lady Barons hosted Bethany College at Belleview Park, and won 7-2. This was the second time these two teams have met this season, with the Lady Barons winning the first match, 6-3.

The Lady Barons celebrated their seniors Kristina Godnick (undefeated) and Leann Roggensack this afternoon, honoring their time and commitment to the team as captains and players.

The No. 2 doubles team of Godnick and Alanna Murray along with No. 3 doubles seed Hannah Pettit and Lucia Neugebauer dominated their matches 8-0. Both doubles teams displayed solid contact while keeping the games quick paced.

"They played two of the cleanest matches of the season, " FUS head coach Jenna Lynch said.

Pettit, Franciscan's representative at the No. 5 singles spot won her match 6-0, 6-0 in a very short amount of time, putting her coach and team at ease.

"I really appreciate Hannah's game," Lynch said. "She allows me to take deep breaths throughout the match because she is one of the most consistent players I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Hannah plays her game every time regardless of weather, opponent skill level, or any other factors that could influence a player's consistency."

Back from an injury, No. 3 singles seed Mary O'Brien won a tough match against Bethany's Allison Snyder 0-6, 6-4, 6-2. In the second set O'Brien had a strong back and forth with her opponent, and came out with the points to take the match to a third set.

This was the team's ninth consecutive win and moves the Lady Barons season record to 11-1 (8-0 AMCC.) The one blemish on Franciscan's record was a loss to Westminster a month ago, and they will have the chance to avenge that loss when they travel to Westminster on Thursday at 4 p.m.
