Box Score BRADFORD, Pa.— Despite increased offensive efforts, the
Franciscan men's soccer team suffered another tough loss today in
their game against the University of Pitt-Bradford, losing 5-0.
"We were playing pretty even and then we committed a foul in the
penalty box and they scored their first goal off a penalty kick,"
said head coach Ward Rogers, "That put us at behind at 1-0."
Another goal off a cross from the left side put the Barons down
2-0 at the half and the offensive attempts to even the score
resulted in turnovers and three more shots goals for Pitt-Bradford
in the second half. Rogers said that in spite of the loss, certain
aspects of the game have improved.
"The team is playing much better, but the score doesn't show
that because, in that critical moment in the game when we're
getting the chance to score and turn things around, we're not
finding the net," Rogers said.
He also added that the team has increased its chances for shots
on goal.
"It's a credit to the gentlemen playing. We're a young team,
still making mistakes, but everyone is still playing hard, still
trying to score a goal," Rogers said.
Standout players included Jesse Saltarelli, Joseph Krilich, and
Edwin de St. Aubin, each of whom had several shots on goal that
were saved by the Panther's goalie.
As the team looks forward to its final game of the season,
Rogers said that the men will be working on finishing shot
opportunities in an effort to score goals and finish their last
home game with a win.
The Barons will play Mt. Aloysius this Tuesday, October 23 at
home at 4pm.
