Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa.— The Lady Barons persevered to pull out a
win against La Roche College after taking the match to five games
and battling it out each and every game (25-15, 24-26, 25-22,
21-25, 15-6). The team is now 13-14 overall on the season and 6-2
in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
Head coach Kelly Herrmann said that the Lady Barons statistics
look solid on paper but at times they were playing a little tight
and nervous while La Roche seemed to play with nothing to lose.
"We had to absolutely battle to win the match," Hermann
said.
The team had a couple distractions during the games specifically
due to one of their teammates, Haley Ketschke, getting injured and
not being able play the rest of the game. Despite having to
readjust the line-up, the team played hard to the end.
"It was good to seem my team being mentally tough enough to
handle getting the victory," Herrmann said.
The team as a whole had a successful game especially on the
defensive side. As a whole, the team had 127, an average of over 25
per game.
"Our team continues to play defense no matter what the situation
is," Herrmann said.
When the match came down to the fifth game the Lady Barons
stepped up their play and proved they were ready to win. Herrmann
said that they began the game by taking the lead and playing with
confidence.
"There were some very long points where every player was
involved and that's playing tough when it counts," Herrmann said.
"I was really proud of them in the fifth game."
Amy O'Keefe continued to add to her career total of assists with
36 on the night. Herrmann also said that Samantha Kelly had a
tremendous game.
With the win, FUS is in good position to make the AMCC playoffs
after one more regular season game. Herrmann said that the key to
her team's success moving forward is their mindset.
"We've got to play relaxed and happy volleyball," Herrmann said.
"That's how we play best, with smiles on our faces"
The Lady Barons look to end their regular season play at home on
Saturday Oct. 27 when they play Hilbert College at 1p.m. This day
will also be their senior day in which they honor Christina Bair
and Anna Cain.
