The Franciscan University Men's and Lady Barons both finished
second overall in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference
Championships. A tough, hilly course as well as cold and wet
weather made the championships a unique challenge.
"Our teams ran very well," head coach Daniel Kuebler said. "This
is a very difficult course and it usually slows most runner times
by about two or two and a half minutes."
Despite the difficult conditions, Baron star, Bill Jones, won
the individual championship with a time of 25:44, keeping a 3:13
per kilometer pace. Jones beat the second-place runner by almost
two and a half minutes. FUS runner Jack Kaiser finished fourth with
a time of 28:45 and Patrick Flanagan was right behind him in fifth
place at 28:51.
"Our men's team ran very strong," Kuebler said.
The Lady Barons also had a strong, also finishing second
overall.
Junior, Nicole Krajewski finished her 6k race with a time of
23:22. She ran a dominant race and finished nearly 30 seconds in
front of her second place competition.
"The teams ran very competitively considering the depth of our
competition," Kuebler said about the AMCC champions Penn St.
Behrend. "They had five women on the all conference team and had
four all stars on the men's conference team."
The Barons now prepare for their NCAA Division III Meet on Nov
10.
"This is when we weed our team out," Kuebler explained. "The
best seven runners are going to qualify in two weeks."
Keubler also said he was particularly proud of his seniors.
"Our seniors ran really well," Kubeler said. "Some of them had
their last race today. They all looked very strong, especially on
such a hilly and difficult course. I'm really proud of the effort
they gave."
Jones and the rest of his team look to qualify and prepare for
the NCAA Div III meet in two weeks.
