Box Score New Wilmington, Pa. - The Lady Barons luck ran out against
Westminster College as they lost 9-0 while playing out of
conference. Their nine game winning streak came to an end, along
with Kristina Godnick's spotless singles and doubles record.
FUS was without their head coach, Jenna Lynch for the match but
despite the loss, the team remains undefeated in conference and
optimistic about the upcoming championships.
"The results don't show how intensely the girls played"
assistant coach Patrick O'Hearn said. "They put their all into each
match."
None of the girls won their matches; however, No. 5 singles seed
Hannah Pettit put up a particularly strong fight, losing in a
ten-point tiebreaker 1-6, 6-1, 7-10.
"Hannah wanted to win. When she walked away, she left everything
on the court. She was our last girl playing" O'Hearn said.
No. 1 doubles seed Leann Roggensack and Mary O'Brien lost 8-0,
and No. 3 doubles seed Hannah Pettit and Lucia Neugebauer lost 8-1.
Kristina Godnick's undefeated singles and doubles season ended when
she and No. 2 doubles partner Alanna Murray lost 8-5.
"This loss was humbling and it will also teach us a lot,"
O'Hearn said. "We want to be able to dominate our opponents like
Westminster dominated us."
The Lady Barons play John Carroll this Saturday, October 6 at
1:00 pm at Belleview Park.
