Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y.— The Franciscan University women's
basketball team only trailed D'Youville College by five points at
halftime but their momentum was lost in the second half as they
dropped the game, 62-49.
"We were trying to make a constant comeback and to D'Youville's
credit they played a great game," head coach Suzy Delaney said.
"They were nailing their shots and it was just frustrating that we
were getting opened shots but we didn't knock them down."
Struggling on offense, FUS had to try and step up their game on
defense to stop the Spartans from running away with the game.
"If your shots aren't falling then you've got to make the stop
on them but they just powered through our attempts to stop them,"
Delaney said. "We didn't apply the extra pressure we needed to at a
consistent rate."
At the start of the second half Franciscan came out strong,
knocking down two quick baskets. They brought energy to the court
but D'Youville continued to make their shots as well.
Throughout the game there was a constant pressure to comeback on
Franciscan's shoulders.
"It sucks out the momentum and you have to be even more focused
and even more mentally tough," Delaney said.
Sophomore's Lacey Huck and Amy O'Keefe led Franciscan with 17
points each.
The team is now 2-5 on the season and 2-2 in the Allegheny
Mountain Collegiate Conference. Its next game is at home on Monday
Dec. 17 at 6 pm against non-conference opponent Caltech.
"We've got to be focused and ready," Delaney said. "We're
excited for another opportunity to go at it and attack."
