Tennis Team Continues to Hold Undefeated Record

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — Both Franciscan University and Penn State Behrend went into Sunday's match undefeated in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. However, only Franciscan ended the day undefeated, winning 5-4. 

"We knew it was going to be a tough match, but once the guys got going they really stepped up and earned a victory," said head coach Jeremy Ellis 

In doubles play the No 3. team, Richard Pankus and John Shultis, used good volleys to their advantage to win 8-5. 

During singles Brain Robau, No. 3 seed, won against Behrend's Alex Prichard, 6-4, 6-1. Then John Bruce, No. 6 seed, defeated Ralph Bretz 6-4, 6-4. Following Bruce's victory Leonel Lacayo, No. 1 seed, secured a win against AMCC player of the week Taiimi Ando, 6-3, 6-4. Paul Jarzynka defeated Chris Galvin 4-6, 6-4, 3-3. 

"You could feel the huge momentum shift when Jack (John Bruce) won his match," said Ellis. "The boost of momentum gave Paul and Leonel the boost of confidence they needed to win." 

The Baron tennis team is now 4-0 in the AMCC and 5-0 on the overall season. The team continues its season Tuesday March, 27 on its home courts playing Bethany College on senior night. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
