Baron Team Secures Undefeated Season in AMCC

Box Score
CRESSON, Pa. — Franciscan University's men's tennis team defeated Mount Aloysius College 9-0 on Saturday in its last conference match of the season, obtaining an undefeated record in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. The Barons finish 6-0 in the AMCC and are now 9-1 on the overall season.

"Today was a big win because we secured our undefeated season in the conference," said head coach Jeremy Ellis. "Everyone played really well in order to pull out the victory."

The match started with shutouts by every doubles team. The No. 1 team, Paul Jarzynka and Brian Robau, No. 2 team Leonel Lacayo and Luke Merry, and No. 3 team Richard Pankus and John Shultis, all won their respective matches 8-0.

The momentum served as a challenge for the singles players to keep the winning streak alive. Paul Jarzynka, this past week's AMCC player of the week, defeated Ryan Bressles 6-1, 6-0; Brian Robau shut out Jordan Roberts 6-0, 6-0; Luke Merry also earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Jacob Hershberger ; John Shultis defeated Sean Steffy 6-0, 6-4; Richard Pankus followed with a 6-1,6-0 win over Wes Stoudnour; and John Bruce beat Luke Fregello 6-0, 6-0, to solidify the team's win.

"We only have two games left before the conference championship," added Ellis, "and we are looking forward to the high level of competitiveness in these matches to get us ready. We need to continue to have mental toughness because although we won conference last year we still have to be ready and fight for wins."

The Barons continue their season with nonconference play on Tuesday, April 3, versus Grove City College. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
