Lady Barons Lose to Hilbert College Hawks

HAMBURG, N.Y. — Franciscan University's softball team faced Hilbert College in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon losing 19-3 in the first game. Although the Lady Barons rallied to challenge the Hawks more in the second game, they lost it too, 12-7.

"I was really proud of the way they came back in the second game," said head coach Terry Leighty. "They hit the ball well and they played hard. In the end we had some good hitting."

Rosemary Cassidy scored two of the team's three points in the first game. Danielle Pillar scored the team's other point.

In the second game Michelle Volk scored two points with two hits and one RBI. Cassidy, Amanda Ruwart, Mallori Linscomb, Catherine Durand and Kelly Cole also scored for the Lady Barons in the second game.

"We are going to keep building and developing the girls for next year," said Leighty. "We have a lot of young girls. They are going through a learning curve and we are pleasantly surprised by the development of the underclassmen."

The Lady Barons stay in New York to challenge D'Youville College in a doubleheader Sunday, April 15 at 3 and 5 p.m.
