Box Score STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Lady Baron tennis team started off their season with a winning weekend. Both Friday and Saturday's matches ended in a winning score of 6-3.
The Lady Barons beat Chatham University in Pittsburgh Friday, August 31st, in their first match of the season.
No. 2 doubles Alanna Murray and Kristina Godnick fought to win their match in a tiebreaker by two points 9-8 (7-5). Murray won the No. 1 singles match 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.
"Alanna's consistency and mental toughness helped her fight to a win," FUS head coach Jenna Lynch.
"I'm looking forward to seeing how the girls can improve with each match," Lynch said. "I'm already seeing some great things and I'm excited to see what they will be capable of this season."
The Franciscan tennis team won their second match on Saturday, September 1st, against Bethany College 6-3. No. 2 doubles Alanna Murray and Kristina Godnick and No. 3 doubles Lucia Neugebauer and Hannah Pettit both won their sets 8-0.
"Bethany was a tough opponent for us last year, so the girls started out a little apprehensive," Lynch said.
Yet the numbers three, four, five, and six singles all won their matches.
"The girls have been working really hard and I'll be expecting that they don't succumb to a state of complacency in their level of play," Lynch said.
The Lady Barons will play Westminster this Thursday, September 6th at home at 4:00 PM. Their first conference match is this Saturday at D'Youville College.
