Box Score ALTOONA, Pa. — The Lady Baron tennis team remains
undefeated in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference after
winning 8-1 against Penn State Altoona Sunday afternoon despite not
having head coach Jenna Lynch present at the match due to
illness.
"Overall all of the girls showed great effort and intensity
today," assistant coach Patrick O'hearn said. "Especially after
winning yesterday it was good to see their effort and I was very
pleased with the amount of heart they played with. "
In doubles play the team once again got off to a good start
winning both No. 1 and No 2. matches 8-2. No. 2 doubles team,
Alanna Murray and Kristina Godnick, continues to impress with its
consistency and hold onto an undefeated record this season.
No. 3 doubles team Hannah Pettit and Lucia Neugebauer lost their
doubles match 8-3 but O'hearn had nothing but praise for them.
"It's easy to get frustrated after losing a doubles match but
the fact that Hannah and Lucia both came back to win their singles
matches showed great determination," O'hearn said.
With a show of mental toughness Hannah Pettit won her No. 5
singles match 6-1,6-2 and Lucia Neugebauer followed suit with a
6-1, 6-3 victory in the No. 6 single match.
Continuing the pattern of mental composure No. 4 singles player
Kristina Godnick played her match out to 3 full sets and then had
to take it to a tiebreaker to seize the win, 6-3, 5-7, 10-4. This
marks a continued improvement in close matches from last season;
the Lady Baron's have won all of their tiebreakers this season.
O'hearn said that the fact that Coach Lynch was not there helped
fuel the team and made them want to play to their fullest and win
for her.
The Lady Barons next match is against non-conference opponent
Waynesburg University on Sept. 26 with the start time scheduled for
4 p.m.
