Box Score STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Franciscan University Lady
Barons snapped their six game losing skid with a win over the
University of Pittsburg at Greensburg Bobcats on Wednesday.
Franciscan has an out of conference record of 6-9 and 1-2 record
against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponents this
season.
After dropping the first game 25-19, the Lady Barons figured
out their game-winning strategy and won three straight games to
secure the 3-1 victory.
"Everybody was playing so well today," head coach Kelly Herrmann
said. "They were just on. All of our hitters, especially Maria
Prezzia, smashed the ball. Against good teams, you have to hit
hard to win"
Prezzia had a team high 13 kills against the Bobcats. On top of
her relentless offense, Prezzia helped protect her team's lead with
18 digs throughout the match.
Sam Kelly also had a standout game. Not only did
she record a team high 28 digs, she also carried her team with six
aces.
"Serving is her strength," Herrmann said of Kelly. "They
couldn't handle her. She can move the ball around. It's so
important to serve to the other teams weak spot."
Lara
Holley returned from an injury tonight not and although not at
100 percent, according to Herrmann, she was still able to spread
the ball around and collect 14 assists.
Captain Anna Cain also
contributed offensively with 10 kills.
"It just felt so good to get that win. We have been struggling,"
Herrmann said. "If our girls hit and move like they did tonight, we
could have a chance to win the conference."
The Lady Barons look to build on this win as they prepare for an
away game against the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Sept.
