Box Score STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - Lady Baron tennis team defeated Mt.
Aloysius College at Belleview Park, finishing up conference play
undefeated. The girls took their eighth straight win, beating the
Mounties 6-3 despite multiple rain delays.
Scheduled for 10 AM, the match was postponed multiple times due
to rain. The match eventually began around noon, but was constantly
being interrupted by weather throughout the day. The match finally
wrapped up around 4 pm.
"Stopping and starting or delaying a match can defeat even the
best, most veteran teams" head coach Jenna Lynch said. "I am so
proud of the girls for having the mental toughness to refocus
themselves on the game after each rain delay."
No. 4 singles seed Kristina Godnick finished her senior season
by winning her singles match 1-6, 7-5, (10-7) in a tiebreaker.
Godnick and doubles partner Alanna Murray dominated their doubles
match as well, winning 8-3. The wins keep her undefeated in singles
and doubles play this season.
"The fact that we were able to pull out a win in spite of the
weather says a lot about how much the girls have improved in their
mental discipline," Lynch said.
No. 1 singles seed Leann Roggensack came onto the court looking
strong and ready for the days competition. She won her match 6-2,
6-3.
"Leann played one of her best matches of her FUS career. She won
several points with her first serve and the unbeatable pace she was
able to put on the ball" Lynch said.
The Lady Barons play Bethany College at home Tuesday October 2nd
at 4:00 PM and away at Westminster this Thursday.
