Box Score 2 After a sizzling start to the Marcia French Memorial Tournament,
the Lady Barons lost both of their matches to Buffalo State
University and Case Western Reserve, three games a piece. The Lady
Barons now have a 5-4 record on the season, and a 2-2 record for
this weekend's tournament.
Franciscan's first loss against the Buffalo State Bengals
(21-25) (22-25) (17-25) was a disappointing one for Coach Kelly
Herrmann.
“I felt like Buffalo State was a good but beatable team
but we were not focused,” Herrmann said.
While the Bengals quickly took advantage of the Lady
Baron's lack of focus a few FUS players still continued to
bolster their stats. Senior, Anna Cain, had a team high 10 kills in
the match and finished out the weekend with 43 kills. Sam Kelly
pitched in defensively with 24 digs ending with 95 digs throughout
the tournament.
“Our stats were not bad but you have to be aggressive to
beat good teams. We needed to be more aggressive,” Herrmann
said.
The Lady Baron's toughest opponent was undefeated Case
Western Reserve. The Spartans defeated the Lady Barons in three
games (7-25) (14-25) (19-25). The Lady Barons battled hard to
extend the match, but were overwhelmed and never got any
momentum.
“We did not play particularly well” said Herrmann.
“We learned a lot.”
Dani Link had a team high five kills while Sam Kelly and Amy
O' Keefe pitched in defensively with 12 digs a piece in the
second match.
The Lady Barons look to bounce back as they head home to battle
Muskingum on September 12.
