Lady Barons Fall to AMCC Leading La Roche

Box Score

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio—The Franciscan University women's basketball team lost to the La Roche College Lady Red Hawks, 79-39. The Lady Barons struggled shooting the basketball, as they shot just 23.2% from the field.

The Lady Barons battled through fatigue as they finished their third game in only five days. They were never able to grab any momentum against the Allegheny Mountain College Conference-leading Lady Red Hawks. The home team gave up 41 points to the Lady Red Hawks in the first half while only shooting 18.8 percent from the field.

“It was a frustrating game for us,” head coach Suzy Delaney said. “We got looks, but we could not nail anything.”

The Lady Barons displayed effort and hustle throughout the entire game recording 17 offensive rebounds. Franciscan ended the game with 35 rebounds in total. The Lady Barons also displayed hustle on defense with 14 steals.

“Our rebounding was better than it has been recently,” Delaney said. “Our defense has been a mainstay the last couple of games.”

Allyson Cooney recorded nine points and 12 rebounds and Lacey Huck chipped in with eight points and 10 rebounds.

“Both of those girls played extremely hard,” Delaney said. “I was very proud of their effort.”

The Lady Barons will put more focus on getting to the foul line next game.

“We just needed to get to the stripe more today,” Delaney said. “The game got out of hand in the first half and we could not adjust to the speed of their defense.”

The Lady Barons look to put this one behind them and focus all of their attention on their away game against the Medaille Lady Mavericks on Jan 9.
